Crime Sneaking in Schools
Crime has spread its tentacles
everywhere in society so much so that even the innocent children are becoming
its victims. The cruel act of killing an innocent child in a school at Gurugram
is an eye-opener example to ascertain as to how ensuring security to the school
children has become the task of topmost-priority. It is high time for all the
school-teachers, principals, the administrators and the owners of all private
schools and even the teachers, the heads and the officers in top echelons of
their cadres in Govt. Schools to organize meetings, to invite suggestions from
all in order to plug the loopholes if they find them in security arrangements
done so far in their schools.
There is a dire need of sensitizing all
the staff-members to be extra careful and vigilant in detecting any security
lapse being done at any level in schools. Once such untoward incident or any
crime of grave proportion takes place, then, it is to be kept in mind that all
is lost almost forever.
The Drivers & the Conductors
Firstly, the drivers and the conductors of buses should be interviewed
properly. They may be given a test of multiple choice in which their deep rooted
thoughts and emotions can be tested. It should be scrutinized that they are
sensitive to human sufferings; they have in them moral values; they are not
violent in their behavior towards children while tackling them in buses; they have a good track-record of their
characters, verified from the village ‘sarpnaches’ or MC’s with their
hand-written comments, etc. Finally, police should be given the list of all the
drivers and conductors for their verification at local level.
Installation of CCTV Cameras
Although the installation of CCTV cameras
may seem expensive to the school managements, but it must be kept in mind that
nothing is expensive and costliest than the lives of the children.
All sensitive places and corners must
be covered by them. The most deserted areas sometimes prove fatal for the
security of the children. Such places must be covered through the hidden eyes
of the camera.
Very few bother about security check-up
at the entry gates. CCTV cameras must be installed to record the entry and exist
of outsiders at the entry and the exit gates.
The instant footage of the CCTV
cameras needs to be viewed by the Principal’s in his office every time. If he
or she is busy, other person from school should be deputed.
Crime does not happen every time.
Accidents do not happen every time, but every time vigilance and carefulness keeps
us secured.
Internal Discipline in Schools
Although all good administrators/principals
in schools make a committee of students to ensure discipline during recess
periods and some teachers are also there on their general duty during the day
to check all types of needful things and requirements, yet I have something to
say in this regard.
In every class, there are two or
three students who bully their fellow students or their juniors. They go to
wash room every now and then. They slip from the class as soon as the bell
rings to announce another period.
Do you know what they usually do? They
enter the washrooms of the younger students and tease them in several ways. Sometimes
they bully them by throwing up and down without getting them hurt physically,
or they shake them violently to frighten them so as they may get ransom in
terms of money or gifts. The frightened children do not mention anything
against them. Some students find a secure place to fight with their adversaries
in the washrooms.
The need is to keep washrooms in
continuous vigilance. The playgrounds
are also to be taken into care and vigilance.
Teachers can check this problem to a
great extent by sending another student as to why the student gone to washroom
previously has not arrived quickly.
There may be so many points more to
discuss on this issue. But today it is sufficient to share my views with you on
this important problem.
