You must have often heard children, the elderly, and young people say:
"Whatever I say is right."
"You only ever find faults in me!"
"I always listen to the voice of my conscience... and whatever I say or do is correct."
Friends, have you ever tried to determine when you are wrong and when you are right? I also believe that many of you readers are likely correct in your judgments and possess an accurate understanding of your own selves.
However, some friends might wish to know how we can determine for ourselves whether we are in the right or in the wrong.
Let us attempt to explain this to you.
You should evaluate yourself against three specific criteria.
The first criterion is legal—that is, pertaining to the law.
The second is social.
The third is ethical.
If, through your words or actions, you violate the laws of the land, then you are in the wrong.
If you are transgressing social traditions or norms, you may also be in the wrong.
I used the phrase "may be" because some societal traditions can be outdated and meaningless; if they do not align with the modern context, you may be considered in the right—even by this criterion—provided you also satisfy the third criterion.
The third criterion is absolutely essential.
It is a standard grounded in ethical and human values.
If you fail to measure up against this standard, then you are unequivocally in the wrong.
For instance, when children argue with their parents or the elderly members of their household, they are violating a moral boundary—regardless of whether their own perspective or opinion is, in fact, correct.
At that moment, they are entirely in the wrong.
It is precisely due to a lack of ethical values—or a failure to recognize them—that crime is on the rise within society.
Even when people are fully aware that they are engaging in wrongful acts, they continue to tread down that same erroneous path.
One reason for this is that those who act in this manner know that no one is watching them.
Alternatively, they may be living far removed from their own community, in a place where they harbor no fear of societal judgment.
They are aware that even if they were to violate certain ethical norms, they would face no legal punishment for doing so.
A person who upholds ethical values is also typically of a religious disposition. This is indeed the case, and it is absolutely essential that it be so.
Such a person always fears God and never violates moral values.

आप स्वयं को तीन मापदंड पर परखिये 1
पहला मापदंड है लीगल अथवा क़ानूनी 1
दूसरा है सामाजिक 1
तीसरा है नैतिक1
यदि आप अपनी वाणी या किर्या से देश का कानून तोड़ते हो तो आप गलती पर हो 1
यदि आप सामाजिक परम्परा या व्यवश्था तोड़ रहे हो तो भी आप गलती पर हो सकते हो 1
'हो सकते ' शब्द का प्रयोग मैंने इस लिए किया है कि समाज कि कुछ परम्पराएँ पुरानी तथा अर्थहीन हो सकती हैं, जो आधुनिक परिवेश में मेल न खा रही हो तो आप इस माप दंड के अनुसार ठीक हो सकते हो यदि आप तीसरे मापदंड के अनुसार भी सही हो 1
तीसरा मापदंड बहुत ही अनिवार्य है 1
यह नैतिक और मानवीय मूल्यों से बना मापदंड 1
यदि आप इस मापदंड के अनुसार खरे नहीं उतरते तो आप बिलकुल गलती पर हो 1
उदाहरण के तौर पर जब संतान अपने माता पिता या घर के बुज़ुग सदस्यों के सामने बहस कर रहे होते हैं तो एक नैतिक मर्यादा का उलंघन कर रहे होते हैं , भले ही उनका दृष्टिकोण या विचार सही भी क्यों न हो 1
वे उस समय बिलकुल गलत हैं1
नैतिक मूल्यों की कमी होने के कारण या इन्हे पहचानने में अनदेखी होने के कारण ही समाज में अपराध बढ़ रहे है 1
लोग जानते हुए भी कि वे गलत काम कर रहे हैं, फिर भी वे उसी गलत मार्ग पर चल रहे होते है 1
इसका एक कारण यह भी है कि जो लोग ऐसा कर रहे हैं, वे जानते हैं कि कोई उन्हें देख नहीं रहा है l
या वे अपने समाज से कही दूर रह रहे है जहाँ उन्हें किसी समाज का डर नहीं है 1
उन्हें पता है कि कुछ नैतिक मूल्य अगर वे तोड़ भी दें तो इस पर उन्हें कोई सजा नहीं होने वाली 1
नैतिक मूल्यों को मानने वाला व्यक्ति धार्मिक प्रवृति का भी होता है और यह होना भी अति आवश्यक है 1
ऐसा व्यक्ति सदैव ईशवर से डरता है और नैतिक मूल्यों का उलंघन कभी भी नहीं करता 1
